Free Resume Templates That You Never Have to Format Yourself
Pick a template family — professional, simple, modern, academic, or LaTeX — and let the AI pour your experience into it. No dragging text boxes, no broken margins, no "why did the second page shift." The output is a typeset PDF that looks identical on every screen and printer.
Resume Templates by Style
Five families, each tuned for a different kind of application. Every one is single-purpose: real text, standard section headings, and a layout ATS parsers read top to bottom without guessing.
Professional Resume Templates
Conservative single-column layouts with serif headings and generous margins — the format finance, law, consulting, and healthcare recruiters expect. A prominent summary block up top, reverse-chronological experience, and nothing that would look out of place printed on a partner's desk.
Simple Resume Templates
Maximum content, minimum decoration: one font, black on white, clear section dividers. The right choice when your bullet points do the talking — and the single most reliable format for automated screening. If you're unsure which family to pick, pick this one; see also our guide to choosing a resume format.
Modern Resume Templates
Contemporary sans-serif typography with a restrained accent color and a compact skills block. Popular with tech, product, design, and marketing candidates who want a current look without sacrificing parseability — the accent lives in headings and rules, never behind the text.
Academic CV Templates
Multi-page layouts with dedicated sections for publications, grants, conference presentations, and teaching experience — the structure graduate schools and search committees expect. Unlike a resume, an academic CV grows with your record; these templates keep page four as tidy as page one. Building a CV rather than a resume? Start at the CV maker.
LaTeX Resume Templates
Typeset with the same engine used for academic publishing — Harvard-style classic, the famous Jake's engineering template, and Sb2nov modern among them. You get LaTeX's kerning, spacing, and vector-perfect PDF output without writing a line of TeX. The full family lives on its own page: LaTeX CV templates.
What Makes a Resume Template ATS-Safe?
Most rejected resumes fail before a human sees them — the applicant tracking system couldn't parse the layout. Every template above passes these four tests; most "beautiful" templates on the internet fail at least two.
Real text, top-to-bottom flow
Parsers read the PDF text layer in order. Multi-column sidebars, text boxes, and content placed in headers or footers get read out of sequence — or skipped. Our layouts keep contact info, experience, and skills in the main flow.
Standard section headings
"Experience," "Education," "Skills" — parsers map sections by these exact words. A template that renames experience to "My Journey" breaks the mapping. Creative labels cost interviews; we don't use them.
No graphics doing text's job
Skill bars, star ratings, icon-only contact rows, and photos all encode information a parser can't read. If a detail matters, it appears as text. Decoration is limited to rules, spacing, and one accent color.
Clean, extractable PDF output
Our PDFs are generated with embedded fonts and a proper text layer — select-all-and-copy produces your resume in reading order, which is precisely what an ATS does. Verify any resume yourself with the free ATS checker.

Looking for a Google Docs Resume Template? Read This First
Google Docs templates are free and familiar, which is why they're the default starting point for millions of job seekers. They also come with a workflow tax that only shows up mid-edit: add one bullet and the page break moves, the second column drifts, and the "Serif" template you copied now looks subtly different from everyone else's… except it doesn't, because thousands of applicants this month used the same five gallery templates.
The deeper problem is structural. Docs is a word processor — you are the layout engine. A template here works differently: the layout is fixed and typeset by software, and the only thing you touch is the content. Same five-minute start, very different tenth revision.
| Step | MobileCV template | Google Docs template |
|---|---|---|
| Getting your content in | Upload your old resume — AI extracts and places everything | Retype or paste section by section, fixing styles as you go |
| Keeping the layout intact | Automatic — spacing, page breaks, and alignment are computed | Manual — every edit can shift margins, columns, and pages |
| Switching designs later | One click; content reflows into the new template | Start a new document and migrate everything by hand |
| Final file | Typeset PDF with embedded fonts, identical everywhere | Exported PDF; fonts and spacing can shift on export |
| Distinctiveness | Five families, AI-personalized content | Same gallery templates recruiters see daily |
Already have a resume in Google Docs or saved in Google Drive? Don't retype it — download it as PDF or Word and drop it into our resume converter. The AI reads it, restructures it, and you pick which template it comes back out in.
The Right Template for Your Occupation
You don't need a different template for every job title — you need the right family for your field's conventions. Here's how the five families map to the roles people most often build here:
Pilot resume template
Classic family. Flight hours, certificates, and type ratings go in a dedicated table directly under the header — chief pilots scan for totals before anything else.
Electrician resume template
Simple family. License class and state up top, then jobs with the systems you've worked (commercial, residential, industrial). No graphics — just clean, parseable credentials.
Bartender resume template
Modern family. Volume numbers sell here: covers per shift, bar revenue, certifications (TIPS, food handler). One page, personality allowed in the summary.
Executive resume template
Executive family, two pages. Leads with a career highlights band (P&L owned, teams built, exits) before the chronology. Board-readable typography, zero decoration.
Medical assistant resume template
Simple family. Certification (CMA/RMA) beside your name, clinical and administrative skills split into two labeled lists — that split mirrors how clinics write their job posts.
High school student template
Simple family with education first. Built for first jobs and college applications — see the full student guide for what counts as experience.
Whatever the role — teacher, nurse, server, or CEO — the AI adapts the same ATS-safe skeleton to your field's expectations. Browse worked examples per job title on the resume examples page.
Which Template Family? The 30-Second Decision
Template choice matters less than people fear and more than "pick your favorite color." The real question is who reads your resume first — a conservative industry gatekeeper, a parser, a search committee — and what they penalize. Find your situation below.
| Your situation | Use this family | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Banking, law, consulting, Big 4 | Professional | These industries read design flourishes as a negative signal; conservative is correct. |
| Applying at volume through job boards | Simple | Every application hits an ATS first; the plainest layout parses most reliably. |
| Tech, product, design, marketing | Modern | A current look with a restrained accent reads well to hiring managers without breaking parsers. |
| Grad school, research, teaching posts | Academic | Committees expect publications, grants, and teaching sections a resume layout can't hold. |
| Software engineering, STEM, or you just love typography | LaTeX | Jake's-style and Harvard-style layouts are the de facto standard in engineering hiring. |
Still torn between two? Pick either — content and design are separate here, so you can render the same resume in both families and compare finished PDFs before you apply. The template is one decision; the format underneath it (reverse-chronological vs functional) is the one that actually changes what recruiters read.
Resume Template FAQ
Are these resume templates really free?+
Yes — sign-up includes 3 free credits, each good for one complete, watermark-free PDF in any template. There's no paywall between you and the download, which is the trick most "free template" sites pull at the last step.
Which template should I use if I have no work experience?+
The simple family, with education moved above experience and a projects section carrying the weight. Students and new graduates should also see the dedicated student CV page — the guidance there covers coursework, internships, and campus leadership.
Can I switch templates after my resume is written?+
Yes — content and design are stored separately, so switching from Modern to Professional is one click and a re-render. This is the practical advantage over document-editor templates, where a redesign means rebuilding the file.
Is a two-column resume template a bad idea?+
For anything passing through an ATS, single-column is the safe call — column order is the most common parsing failure. Two-column layouts are fine when a human is the first reader (networking, direct email, portfolio contexts). When in doubt, test the file in the ATS checker before sending.
What's the difference between a resume template and a CV template?+
Length and audience. A resume is 1–2 pages, tailored per job; a CV is a complete academic or professional record that can run many pages, with publications and grants. Use the resume families here for industry jobs and the CV maker or CV templates for academic and international applications.
Do you have example content to put in the templates?+
Yes — our resume examples by job title include real quantified bullet points for teachers, medical assistants, CNAs, pilots, and more, plus guidance on adapting them honestly to your own record.
