A CV Maker That Actually Works on a Phone

Most "CV maker apps" are desktop builders squeezed onto a small screen — pinch-zooming into A4 previews, dragging text boxes with your thumb. MobileCV was built the other way round: the phone is the primary device. You supply the facts; the AI and the typesetting engine do the layout, so nothing depends on you dragging anything.

Photograph your old CV

Take a photo of a printed CV or a screenshot of a Word doc. The AI reads it, extracts every job and date, and rebuilds it cleanly.

No app to install

Runs in your phone's browser — Android, iPhone, tablet. No 200 MB download, no permissions, no update nags. Your CV syncs to any device you sign in on.

Layout handled for you

You never touch margins, columns, or fonts. The typesetting engine produces a print-perfect A4 PDF — the same output whether you built it on a phone or a laptop.

Apply from the same device

Saw the job on Indeed on your commute? Build the CV, download the PDF, and attach it to the application — all before your stop.

UK CV Conventions — What British Employers Expect

A CV for the UK follows rules that American resume templates quietly break. Get these six right and your CV reads as local, not imported. Our templates apply them by default.

📄 Two pages, A4

The UK standard is two A4 pages — not the one-page US rule. One page is fine for school leavers and career starters; three pages only for senior or academic roles.

✍️ Personal statement up top

Three to four lines under your name: who you are, what you've done, what you're looking for. UK recruiters expect it; the AI drafts one from your experience automatically.

🚫 No photo, no date of birth

Under UK equality law, employers must not consider age or appearance — so photos, date of birth, and marital status are left off. (Much of continental Europe still expects a photo; our EU templates support one.)

🤝 "References available on request"

Don't list referees' names and phone numbers. A single closing line — or nothing at all — is the modern convention; employers ask for references at offer stage.

🎓 GCSEs and A-Levels where relevant

Early-career CVs list A-Levels (with grades) and summarise GCSEs ("9 GCSEs grades 9–5 incl. Maths & English"). Once you have a degree plus experience, trim school detail to a line.

🇬🇧 British spelling and dates

"Organised", "programme", "labour" — and dates as "Mar 2022 – Present". Small signals, but a CV full of American spellings reads as copy-pasted. Tell the AI your target country and it localises.

Applying in the EU instead?

Continental conventions differ: German and French employers often expect a photo, longer CVs are acceptable, and language levels matter. For EU applications many institutions prefer the official Europass CV format — we generate that too, from the same content.

Do You Need a CV or a Resume?

In the UK, Ireland, and most of Europe, the CV is the standard document for every job application — a two-page account of your experience, education, and skills. In the US and Canada the everyday document is called a resume, and "CV" is reserved for long-form academic documents with publications and grants.

Practically: applying in Britain or Europe → make a CV here. Applying to a US company → use our resume builder, which applies one-page US conventions instead. Same content, different rulebook — and you can generate both from a single MobileCV profile.

The Personal Statement — the Part Everyone Gets Wrong

The three or four lines at the top of a UK CV decide whether the rest gets read. The formula that works: who you are → your strongest evidence → what you're after. Adjectives don't count as evidence; numbers and named results do.

Weak

Hardworking, motivated team player with excellent communication skills seeking an exciting opportunity in a dynamic environment.

Strong

Retail supervisor with 4 years at Boots, latterly running a 6-person team and the store's best mystery-shopper scores in the region, now looking for an assistant-manager role in high-street retail.

Weak

Recent graduate passionate about making a difference and eager to learn new skills in a forward-thinking organisation.

Strong

Newly qualified teaching assistant (Level 3, enhanced DBS) with a year of voluntary SEN support at a Leeds primary school, seeking a TA position in Key Stage 1 or 2.

CV Maker FAQ

Is there a CV maker app to download?+

You don't need one — MobileCV runs entirely in your phone's browser and is designed for small screens first. That means no App Store or Google Play download, nothing taking up storage, and the same account working on your laptop when you switch devices.

Is the CV maker really free?+

Yes — signing up gives you 3 free credits and PDF downloads are free forever. You only pay (a small one-time amount, no subscription) if you want the editable Word version of your CV.

How long should a UK CV be?+

Two A4 pages is the UK standard for most roles. One page is perfectly acceptable — often better — for school leavers and anyone with under ~3 years of experience. Only senior, medical, or academic CVs should run longer.

Should I put a photo on my CV?+

Not for the UK or Ireland — photos invite unconscious bias and most British recruiters expect CVs without them. For Germany, France, and much of continental Europe a professional photo is still customary. Our templates support both; choose based on where you're applying.

Do I list references on my CV?+

No. Either omit the section entirely or close with "References available on request." Employers request referee details at offer stage, and publishing someone's phone number on a document you'll send to dozens of companies is bad etiquette.

Can it make a US-style resume too?+

Yes. Your content is stored once; you can generate a two-page UK CV, a one-page US resume via the resume builder, or an official Europass CV for EU institutions — without retyping anything.

Will my CV pass applicant tracking systems (ATS)?+

Our PDFs use a clean single-column text layer that ATS software parses reliably — no tables, text boxes, or graphics that scramble parsing. You can verify any CV against a specific job advert with the free ATS checker.
